How important is democracy for the development of a nation?
Democracy is the political regime in which sovereignty is exercised by the people, citizens are the holders of power and entrust part of this power to the State so that it can organize society. All political decisions must be in accordance with the wishes of the people.
The history of the origin of Democracy begins in Ancient Greece, approximately in the 10th century BC. The definition of what Democracy is has evolved considerably over time, but it is possible to conceptualize it as a form of government in which the people elect their rulers through the process known as election.
Examples of Democracy
The possibility of direct participation in politics is the main characteristic of participatory democracy. Many Western republican countries have, to some degree, developed some form of democracy. There are also large monarchies, like England, that are democratic.

Classified as the "most democratic country on the African continent" by Freedom House, Cape Verde obtained the same score as France: 90 on a scale of 100. Cape Verdean Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva was pleased with the result but stated that he aimed for a "higher level".
Democracy “Government of the people, by the people and for the people”. The Sovereign is the People and the "Democratic Institutions": entities and institutions founded on laws and constitutions that establish the representative system, as well as the empire of laws that control it, created by the People, to serve the People.
The words “Democratic Institutions” are often used by pseudo protectors of the People, even though, in practice, their actions are not democratic at all. The people will suffer and will feel that Democracy is in decline.
The global state of democracy is fragile and has not improved over the past three decades, half of democratic governments around the world are in decline, while almost half of all authoritarian regimes have worsened and imprisoned Democracy, extinguishing it or showing a facade. Democracy in Latin America, among the many years of authoritarian governments, faced numerous challenges to consolidate itself in the countries of the region.
